Municipal Solid Waste to Energy

A decade of efforts by TIFAC along with industry partner M/s SELCO International Ltd. has brought about a major breakthrough in the segregation and processing of heterogeneous municipal solid waste (MSW); the creation of refuse derived fuel (RDF) from MSW; and its subsequent use for the generation of electricity. This is likely to revolutionize the MSW processing sector. The country’s first commercial scale (6.6 MW) power plant based on MSW derived fuel has been commissioned in Hyderabad with TIFAC initiative.

Technology Transfer

TIFAC is promoting and propagating the DST technology of processing MSW to produce RDF and offering the technology from concept-to-commissioning to interested entrepreneurs with the help of APTDC (a joint body of TIFAC, CII & Govt. of AP). TIFAC has tied up with leading industry like M/s GRASIM Industries (Cement Division) to establish more MSW processing plants to produce RDF for use as alternative fuel in cement kilns.
