Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC), New Delhi has been established by the Government of India, in 1988 with the mandate to assess the state of the art technology and set directions for future technological development in India in important socio-economic sectors.  Leveraging its knowledge networking capabilities, TIFAC have implemented a wide array of programs in many technology areas.  The Organisation has to play a major role in developing a strong foresight framework and network for the country by carrying out foresight studies in crucial sectors of national importance.  Foresight activities are to be driven by factors like economic growth and environmental issues.


The Executive Director will be appointed after obtaining the approval of the Competent Authority based on the recommendations made by a high level Search-cum-Selection Committee.  The Search-cum-Selection Committee will consider the applications received in response to this advertisement as well as nominations received from eminent academic persons like Fellows of Academies, Directors of National Laboratories and Vice Chancellors of Universities etc.

Essential: Doctorate in Natural / Agricultural Sciences / Engineering / Technology / Medicine from a recognized University
Desirable:  (a) Original published work of high standards; (b) Evidence of high professional eminence by way of recognitions like fellowship of academics, national / international awards in science, etc. (c) Post-graduate qualifications and / or research in Management
G.    Essential Experience for Direct recruitment:
(a)    At least 16 years of experience in research and development in industrial and academic institutions and / or Science & Technology organizations or as faculty / scientist of recognized national / international universities  / research Institutes / corporate R&D Labs etc. out of which at least 3 years should be in management / administrative capacity for science and technology programs, planning and development, budget & finance, coordination and such organizational matters;
(b)    Demonstrable experience in technology forecasting studies, S&T policies and planning, studies related to economic impact of technologies etc.
[Note: R&D experience will include the period spent in obtaining the Doctorate Degree].
H.    Eligibility Criteria for recruitment on Deputation / Contract:  Scientists or Technologists working in the Central/ State Governments / Universities / Recognized Research Institutions / Semi-Government, Statutory or Autonomous Organizations in India.

    (ii)  5 years regular service in the post carrying pay in the pay band of Rs. 37,400-67,000+Grade Pay of Rs.  8900/- (pre revised) or

I.    Job Description: The Executive Director will have the overall administrative control of TIFAC and is expected to provide high-level leadership for examining and evaluating the state of the art technologies and direction of future technological developments in various cross sectoral areas as well as in other sectors of the economy, both in India and abroad and prepare technology foresight reports, technology impact statements for various areas covered by the technology foresight studies, identity priorities for undertaking indigenous R&D activities, suggest strategies for technology development based on priorities and draw up specific programmes for research, enthuse and motivate scientists and other officers of TIFAC, promoting creativity and excellence and create an atmosphere conductive to harmonious functioning of TIFAC.  S/he will interact and establish rapport with national and international, academic and professional institutions and ensure multi disciplinary and multi institutional cooperation towards fulfilment of the objective of TIFAC.

  • Introduction

TIFAC Internship Programme offers opportunity to students to work in the technology foresight and technology roadmapping exercises under supervision of TIFAC Scientists. TIFAC assigns to each intern a specific topic from the areas identified by TIFAC.

This programme helps students to get familiar with the emerging trends in cutting edge technologies, their potential impacts, as well as with the techniques and tools of technology foresight and technology roadmapping.  So far about 80 students have benefited from this programme.

TIFAC too benefits from the interaction with enthusiastic young minds with fresh thoughts and technical acumen from reputed academic institutions in the country.

Internship in TIFAC is neither a job nor any assurance thereof from TIFAC. Candidates pursuing B.Tech/ M.Sc/ M.Tech courses from Universities/ Institutions of National and International repute are eligible to apply for the internship.

Internship is offered in three sessions: Spring, Summer and Autumn. Selection is made based on screening and shortlisting of applicaitons received online, followed by telephonic interviews.

  • Eligibility


Candidates pursuing B.Tech/ M.Sc/ M.Tech/MBA/MCA courses are eligible to apply for the internship. B.Tech students must have been successfully completed four semesters or appeared for fourth semester examinations. For specific relevant disciplines please refer to the section “Available Vacancy”.

Duration of internship will be up to a maximum of 12 months for M.Tech students and 6 months for others.

  • Token Remuneration


B.Tech/ M.Sc: Token remuneration @Rs.10,000/- per month per intern

M.Tech/ MBA: Token remuneration @Rs.12,000/- per month per intern

  • Submission of Report


The interns will be required to present to the concerned Head of the Division a report on the assignment at the end of the internship.  Simultaneously they will also be required to give to the Executive Director, TIFAC mandatory feedback on their experience during the internship.

2.    Internees should be available on full time basis during the internship period
3.    Internees need to carry their own laptops
4.    Approval of TIFAC needs to be obtained for publishing any paper related to the works carried out during the internship
